Therapy for Children & Adolescents
Childhood Stress, Depression & Anxiety
Our kids live in a different world than we experienced as children. With advances in technology, our children have the access and the desire to engage in new and exciting means of communication, as well as the ability relate to the world around them without even leaving their bedrooms.
While the convenience and excitement of these advances is enjoyable, they have the potential to create opportunities for danger as well. Our kids and especially our teens, face a number of mature issues and are frequently exposed to overwhelming amounts of information in an instant.
They are having to grasp concepts at ages that are sometimes out of sync with their physical development. They are exposed to social and relational experiences that at times are not even familiar to their caregivers.
These situations and experiences can make the changing nature and dynamics of their relationships with caregivers and peers feel especially challenging. The rapid physical and emotional changes in their development can create many struggles with mood, opposition, anxiety, self esteem issues, substance abuse, and other harmful or impulsive behaviors.
I have years of experience working with children and adolescents in hospitals, residential treatment, and outpatient settings. As a family therapist and a parent, I have a experience with the struggles of wanting to protect my child from discomfort and harm, while also allowing her the opportunity to grow independent, and to develop skills that will allow her to thrive in today’s world.
